This is the story of 12 year old Zane. He was sent to New Orleans to visit his dad's family when Katrina hit. He and his grandmother got on a bus to get out of town, but when Zane's dog decides to make a run for it, Zane gets off the bus to go and find him. This leads him to be all by himself at his relative's house when the flood waters rise. Found by an elderly man and a young girl, Zane and his dog try to make it to safety. Along the way their canoe comes across some unsavory characters before Zane is finally reunited with his mother.
This was a fine book. It is for middle grade and written so. I found it lacking depth but otherwise an interesting story. If you are wondering why I read this children's book -it was for an A-Z challenge and I needed a "Z" book
