Book Review #21 (2015 Challenge), The Giver

The book is:  The Giver (read in June, 2015)

The book was under the category:  A Book that became a movie

The book is about a 12 year old boy (in a utopian world).  The community is controlled by who they can marry, how many children they can have, and what job they can obtain.  Jonas, who is coming of age and will be assigned a work position, gets "Receiver of Memory".  As he starts to receive memories of the past that other people in his community do not have, he becomes aware of the hypocrisy that rules his world.  His world seems "perfect" to the citizens, but Jonas comes to find that it is not.

I really liked this book.  UNTIL - the end.  It ended like the first act of a play.  We were left hanging and have no idea what happened to the main character and the rest of the town.  As I was listening to the book, I kept looking at the player and thinking "it can't be nearing the end", but it was.  I was looking up to see if there were sequels to this book and the short answer is "sort of".  I might have to check these out because I was just left hanging.

Since there is promise of closure to this book, I will give it 3 stars
